Just 6 miles East of Beaumont is the community of Vidor. While not as well known as its neighbor to the West, Beaumont, or its neighbor to the SW, Port Arthur, Vidor is a "bedroom community" for its better known neighbors. Let’s define bedroom community. A bedroom community is one that is primarily residential where most residents commute to work in nearby areas. With the short commute to Beaumont and affordable housing, Vidor is an attractive place to live for many.
Housing Activity in North Vidor/Pine Forest:
Our criteria include single family residences, with a minimum of 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, priced above $100,000. The search area is North Vidor with 1-10 being the cut off on the South side, and to the North including Pine Forest. Currently, there are 17 homes for sale that meet the criteria. Prices range from $106,500 to $349,000. The average asking price is $178,818.
"Last year, from Jan. 2007 through Jan. 2008, there were 39 homes that closed."
The average price was $155,101. Homes that were sold spent an average of 110 days on the market. The average sale price was 97% of the asking price. The most expensive sale recorded last year was $517,000. It was a 4000 sq. ft. home on 33 acres.
The most expensive home for sale is located in Westlake Estates it features over 3200 sq. ft of living space, 5 bedrooms, 3+ baths built in 2007 with granite counter tops and hard wood floors. Asking price $349,900. For approximately $120,000 you can purchase a 3 bedroom 2 bath, 1600+ sq. ft. home. $159,900 will buy you a 3/2 with a lot of upgrades such as the picture shown here. 
Last year permits were pulled for 18+/- conventional homes according to figures from the city. New home construction values equaled approximately $5.1 million for the year 2007. A large part of that is a new apartment complex being built near Hwy 12.
All homes in Vidor are served by the Vidor Independent School District. Vidor High School has two famous country singers as alumni: Tracy Byrd and Clay Walker .
